Benefits of Certification
Nursing specialty certification does more than just validate your knowledge and experience. For many nurses, the process of becoming certified starts a course of life-long learning. By going back and reviewing concepts that you learned earlier in your career, or in nursing school, it allows you to integrate information and frame it up with your experience; this process leads to higher levels of practice and improved patient care.
Nurses who become certified relate that they feel more confident, have better collaborative relationships with their peers and with physicians, have fewer errors and adverse effects in their patient care, and they are more satisfied with their jobs.
Nursing specialty certification was the beginning of a process of life-long learning for me that led to studying for a master's degree and post-masters work as well. So, if you want to improve your care, feel more confident and more satisfied with your career, I highly recommend beginning the process of certification as a means to helping you achieve all that you can as a nurse.
